The workshop was taught by Early Life History section members Stacey Ireland and Ed Roseman from U.S. Geological Survey Great Lakes Science Center, with a special invasive carps (Hypophthalmichthys spp. and Ctenopharyngodon) module by Chris Mayer, University of Toledo Lake Erie Center’s grass carp and invasive carps strike team leader. Taxa included common Great Lakes and Ohio River drainage fishes. The course made use of digital images of larvae to teach participants an approach to using dichotomous keys to aid identification. Sample collection, processing, and specimen preservations and handling were also covered.
